How Big a Threat is AI?

For hundreds of years, technology has threatened the job market. First, there was the Industrial Revolution, followed by steam and railways, steel, electricity, heavy engineering, oil, cars, and mass production, and then information technology and telecommunications. Now, we are staring down the barrel of WEB 3.0, blockchain, tokenization, and AI. So, how profound will the changes be?

In the short term, we believe the proliferation of new technologies — AI among them — is going to give rise to new industries and, therefore, new types of employment. What is often missed in assessing future trends is the power of the human spirit. There is something hard-wired into us that strives for more…the need to create, innovate, build, and contribute. On the flip side, there is a lot of commentary about a future world of universal basic income and machines taking over, eradicating the need for humans. If you subscribe to this dystopian view, then that is fair enough, but I think the creative and conquering nature of good people is undersold in this scenario.

Will some people be displaced? Certainly. Will that be the end of the road? Certainly not. There is no doubt that the rate of technological change is exponential, but if there is one thing that has prevailed through all disruptive advancements over multiple generations, it is our ability to adapt and overcome. It is what has marked the upward surge of human achievement since the dawn of creation. Whatever shape the future workforce takes, Avatr will always be here to support the indomitable human spirit and provide a pathway for the community to perform and earn to their highest potential.
